How to Get More Google Reviews With One Email

If your law firm wants to get more 5-star google reviews, all you need is one simple email.

It’s no secret that 5-star ratings are crucial to getting new clients. It’s not just about being a well-reviewed firm, but it helps you rank higher in local based searches- which is a huge leverage point.

So how can your law firm get more Google reviews?

There’s plenty of review management software that gives you some gadget to help generate reviews, either by triggering a system or filtering device. They label themselves as a “feedback machine” that will improve the productivity of your firm.

But that is overcomplicating the process. All you really need is one email.

This one email has generated at least 1,000 5-star reviews for law firms. In more realistic calculations, law firms who have set this email into motion have generated more than 5,000 5-star reviews. Sounds kind of unbelievable, right?

Ben Glass’s Simple Email

This idea came from our founder, Ben Glass. He used it in his practice, Ben Glass Law, to get hundreds of reviews. The email is very simple.

You send the email to anyone who has had a positive interaction with your practice.

It’s common to think that you can only get reviews from someone who has used your service, completed a case, received a settlement check, and so on. But that’s not exactly the case.

The Secret to Asking for More Reviews

The main rule is that your reviewer can only review their actual experience.

So, someone who has not hired you to be their lawyer can’t and shouldn’t review you as the “best law firm in town.” But they can say they’ve had a positive experience, find you and your team helpful, and that you are easy to talk to about certain practice areas.

They don’t need to be an accurate evaluator of your legal service. They just need to be an accurate evaluator of the customer service experience. And a lot of people want that information as much or even more than the lawyering part.

So, what do you want from the people who review you?

There are plenty of, for example, lawn care companies in your community. But how do you check which one is best? They all seem capable of cutting a lawn well, but which one is the cream of the crop?

Which ones are responsive? Which ones show up on time? Which ones were easy to book and provide a service that you need?

This is what you should look for in your reviewers.

Email Script for Getting Google Reviews

The email that you send is going to be very straightforward:

  1. Recap why you’re contacting them, include any necessary information, and next steps for the client.
  2. Ask them about a review.

An easy way to create an email script is as follows:

If you’d like to help more people in the community who might have a legal situation like yours, the best way is to leave a review on Google. Most people want to know what we do and that we are easy to talk with. You don’t need to share any of your detailed experience with us unless you want, but telling other that our firm is friendly, answers the phone on time, and provides good counsel is all they want to hear. If you’re willing to do that, could you leave a review for us here on Google?

How to Get Tons More Reviews

If you really want to up the number of Google reviews you receive for your law firm, here’s what you do.

You and any member of your team, at the end of an appointment or call, say, “Would you be willing to leave us a review about your experience on this call/appointment today?”

Chances are they will say yes.

You can then give a spiel, like the email script, about how people want to hear about customer service and comfortability with your firm. Make sure to add that you will send an email shortly after your call/appointment, including a recap and direct link to leave the review.

When you add this one simple conversation, you can double, triple, even quadruple the number of people who actually leave reviews for you.

Use a Saved Template

And here’s another secret: it’s not complicated. You can use whichever email platform you like by saving a template for your email. You don’t need any extra software.

All you need is to remember the end of a conversation, ask for a potential review, and follow up with an email.

Most attorneys start their firms assuming that being a really, really good attorney should, in and of itself, be a marketing advantage. Those attorneys believe that joining a whole bunch of committees and putting their name in lawyer directories is “marketing,” and they never bother to ask if there is a better way.

Attorneys are catching on, however, and those who succeed learn to leverage their current resources to create effective (and ethical) marketing. What they discover isn’t a magic pill or silver bullet but a different approach to marketing that your competitors haven’t considered.

If you want a peek at what successful attorneys use to market their practice, the HERO Starter Kit is your logical next step.

We’ve put together a FREE (and potentially life-changing) kit for solo and small firm attorneys that will show you a better way to reach potential clients and get them excited to call your firm. Request your HERO Starter Kit from Great Legal Marketing!
